Maja Kozłowska was born in 1999 in Świnoujście, Poland. From 2018 to 2023, she studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw. Her artistic practice explores a dynamic blend of techniques, including metal casting and painting, while emphasizing sound as her most personal and fundamental medium. Through her work, Maja reflects on contemporary culture and mass thoughtlessness, offering insightful commentary that resonates with viewers and listeners alike. In addition to her visual art, Maja is musically active, performing as a solo artist under the name Mahjong and as part of the Wicker Duck duo.
Maja: "My works explore the phenomenon of the disappearing ability to communicate, living "next to each other" while the "I," the observer, takes the place of the "I" here and now. The process of creation is also a return to childhood, to the moment when the world/relationships began to disappoint, giving way to a sense of shame that I'm a human. "
The residence, especially when autumn begins and the world falls silent, is an experience that gives a chance to admit many things to myself.
I'm left alone with my thoughts, longing and with my talkativeness.
I start each day by checking the condition of the garden. I open the terrace and listen; my main companions have become robins.
