Weekly markets

Genk holds two weekly markets at fixed times, i.e. the Thursday market in the city centre of Genk, and the Saturday market in the Vennestraat.

  • City centre of Genk Genk: Thursday from 8 am to 1 pm
  • The Market in the Vennestraat: Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm

The Thursday market is one of the largest markets in the region. More than 130 stallholders offer a wide and varied range from fresh produce such as flowers, vegetables and fish over textiles and accessories to speciality products. Please note that as of 26/10, the market stallholders normally located on the Grote Markt have moved. You can find the new locations on the City of Genk website.

At the fresh market in Vennerstraat, around 50 market stallholders sell mainly food.

Both in the city centre and on Vennerstraat, underground parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the markets.

Other markets take place in Genk in addition to the weekly markets:

  • Annual market: Wednesday 1st of May from 8 a.m to 2 p.m.
  • Festive market at Ascension Day: Thursday 9th of May from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Evening market on Vennestraat: Monday 20th of May from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Evening market Genk centre: Monday 17th of June from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday markets: every Sunday in July and August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Evening market Margarethalaan: Monday 29th of July from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Evening market Zaveldries: Friday 9th of August from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Evening market Stalenstraat: Thursday 15th of August from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Evening market Boxberg: Friday 13th of September from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Flower market (cemeteries Genk centre and Waterschei): from Tuesday 29th of October to Friday 1st of November from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday market shuttle

Every Thursday from 9am to 2pm you can use the market shuttle, the bus that runs for free between stops at

  • the free Limburghal car park on Jaarbeurslaan
  • the Centrumlaan near Shopping 3

You will recognise the stops by the orange info signs.

The distinctive bus stops at the stops every 15 minutes on average and will take you safely and quickly to and from the market.
